And Ί ³ ³Ί this time, he's also brought along good friend, Ί ³ ³Ί former Helloween bandmate, and Gamma Ray Ί ³ ³Ί frontman Kai Hansen along for the ride. The two Ί ³ ³Ί are no strangers to collaboration, as Kiske Ί ³ ³Ί appeared on both Land of the Free and To the Ί ³ ³Ί Metal!, but this is the first time the two have Ί ³ ³Ί been featured on an album entirely since Keeper Ί ³ ³Ί of the Seven Keys Pt. II. While this quasi- Ί ³ ³Ί Helloween reunion has a few familiar flares of Ί ³ ³Ί speed/power metal, this is by and large a more Ί ³ ³Ί hard rock/heavy metal outing. But that's no Ί ³ ³Ί reason for hardcore Helloween and Gamma Ray fans Ί ³ ³Ί to fret, as this band delivers an album that is Ί ³ ³Ί fun, fast, and full of good times. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί After only a few sporadic appearances with Ί ³ ³Ί Avantasia and Gamma Ray, it is a great feeling Ί ³ ³Ί to once again hear Michael Kiske's voice with a Ί ³ ³Ί rock/metal sound again. Twenty-some years Ί ³ ³Ί removed from his Keeper of Seven Keys glory Ί ³ ³Ί days, Michael's voice understandably is not Ί ³ ³Ί hitting the same kind of high notes he once was. Ί ³ ³Ί But by no means has his voice lost any of the Ί ³ ³Ί command, power, or familiarity from singing in Ί ³ ³Ί Helloween, and his tenor is still strong and his Ί ³ ³Ί lower octave is actually more befitting of a Ί ³ ³Ί hard rock feel than frantic power metal. He also Ί ³ ³Ί exhibits an excellent vibrato on songs such as Ί ³ ³Ί My Sanctuary. Kai Hansen takes the duty of lead Ί ³ ³Ί guitar, and while he's not shredding like fans Ί ³ ³Ί are used to on Gamma Ray releases, he still Ί ³ ³Ί provides strong hard rock riffs and the Ί ³ ³Ί occasional awesome solo. The instrumentation as Ί ³ ³Ί a whole is extremely solid and complements Ί ³ ³Ί Kiske's voice well. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί As I mentioned before, the songs are more of a Ί ³ ³Ί hard rock/heavy metal nature rather than speed Ί ³ ³Ί or power metal, but they are still fast-paced, Ί ³ ³Ί melodic and catchy. The two most noteworthy Ί ³ ³Ί tracks are the title track Unisonic and My Ί ³ ³Ί Sanctuary, which are easily the most anthemic Ί ³ ³Ί and memorable songs on the album. King for a Day Ί ³ ³Ί has a slower, more grinding feel to it, Never Ί ³ ³Ί Change Me has a slight pop-rock/pop-metal sound, Ί ³ ³Ί and Star Rider is both hard and emotional. Even Ί ³ ³Ί the obligatory power ballad No One Ever Sees Me Ί ³ ³Ί is solid. Though power ballads are always risky Ί ³ ³Ί to do, as they are seemingly done just for the Ί ³ ³Ί sake of having one and very rarely stray from a Ί ³ ³Ί "soft-yet-heavy-as-it-picks-up-but-still-soft" Ί ³ ³Ί sound, it's still an enjoyable listen and has a Ί ³ ³Ί meaningful message of the oppression of women in Ί ³ ³Ί the Middle East. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί Unisonic is an enjoyable for listen for anyone Ί ³ ³Ί who is either a die-hard Helloween and Gamma Ray Ί ³ ³Ί fan or those who simply like entertaining, Ί ³ ³Ί fast-paced rock songs. The band has a very Ί ³ ³Ί promising future and I am interested to see how Ί ³ ³Ί far they go from here and how they will carry Ί ³ ³Ί on. This is one of the most solid rock/metal Ί ³ ³Ί albums I've heard in a long time and while it Ί ³ ³Ί will not go down as a classic, it will most Ί ³ ³Ί likely be extremely underrated as well. Very Ί ³ ³Ί strong performances around, but with guys like Ί ³ ³Ί Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen, that is to be Ί ³ ³Ί expected.
