The heavy Ί ³ ³Ί metal scene was ruled by bands such as The Ί ³ ³Ί Scorpions, Poison and a host of others that Ί ³ ³Ί filled the airways with a much more radio Ί ³ ³Ί friendly guitar oriented rock that was based on Ί ³ ³Ί catchy hooks and anthem like choruses. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί Axxis is one of the groups that jumped on this Ί ³ ³Ί bandwagon and have yet to get off! This disc Ί ³ ³Ί which was the best selling debut album in Ί ³ ³Ί Germany at the time is filled with all the Ί ³ ³Ί quintessential trappings you would expect from Ί ³ ³Ί this kind of band. From the album openers Ί ³ ³Ί "Living In A World" and "Kingdom Of The Night Ί ³ ³Ί you get the obligatory fiery anthem like metal Ί ³ ³Ί that will have the fist pumping and the crowd Ί ³ ³Ί singing along with the refrain. Lead singer Ί ³ ³Ί Bernhard Weiss is given the chance to show the Ί ³ ³Ί right amount of angst with not one but two Ί ³ ³Ί mandatory power ballads with "Fire And Ice" and Ί ³ ³Ί "Tears Of The Trees". The rest of the album is Ί ³ ³Ί filled with songs that fall somewhere in Ί ³ ³Ί between. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί While the guitar work of Weiss and Walter Ί ³ ³Ί Pietsch is very good throughout the album and Ί ³ ³Ί the vocals of Bernhard is as good as most in Ί ³ ³Ί this genre, the album is one that sounds like it Ί ³ ³Ί is following the path that others have been down Ί ³ ³Ί before instead of pushing into any new Ί ³ ³Ί territory. This is not necessarily a bad thing, Ί ³ ³Ί if you like this type of stuff it will remind Ί ³ ³Ί you of so many other groups that you would be Ί ³ ³Ί hard pressed not like something on here. I Ί ³ ³Ί personally like the song "Living In A World" Ί ³ ³Ί which has a ring of later day Yes to it. The Ί ³ ³Ί song "Never Say Never" with its galloping guitar Ί ³ ³Ί is another that I kept coming back to with its Ί ³ ³Ί Iron Maiden feel. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί It is easy to see why this album did so well. It Ί ³ ³Ί gives people just what they want without having Ί ³ ³Ί to delve to deep. This album will bring back Ί ³ ³Ί memories of music that was less complicated and Ί ³ ³Ί unpretentious. It was just rock & roll!
