Finally the band have Ί ³ ³Ί released a live DVD to answer all the fan’s Ί ³ ³Ί questions - ‘can they really do that live’? Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί Dragonforce finally have released a long-awaited Ί ³ ³Ί DVD to prove their worth to doubters who have Ί ³ ³Ί said time and time again that Dragonforce cannot Ί ³ ³Ί replicate live what they do on record. , the Ί ³ ³Ί band suffered a few misfortunes with their sound Ί ³ ³Ί on their peak ‘Inhuman Rampage‘ tour nearly 10 Ί ³ ³Ί years ago, but the band have exponentially Ί ³ ³Ί developed to be one of the most entertaining and Ί ³ ³Ί energetic live acts in metal. The band decided Ί ³ ³Ί to record their big stage Japan show at the Loud Ί ³ ³Ί Park Festival in Saitama last year, whilst Ί ³ ³Ί intermittently showing the lives of the band off Ί ³ ³Ί stage in one neat little visual package. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί Bands always say that Japan is one of the best Ί ³ ³Ί places to play live, and one can understand with Ί ³ ³Ί the immediate impact of ‘Fury of the Storm‘ in Ί ³ ³Ί the opening of the performance. The fans are Ί ³ ³Ί responsive, the band are energetic and the sound Ί ³ ³Ί is perfect - there is really little more one Ί ³ ³Ί could ask for in a show. However when it comes Ί ³ ³Ί to DVD’s there is always one thing that can Ί ³ ³Ί really throw a show off, that being the camera Ί ³ ³Ί work. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί There are too many live performances filmed Ί ³ ³Ί where the cameramen have missed important Ί ³ ³Ί aspects of the show such as missed solos or Ί ³ ³Ί dramatic stage flair, and then edited poorly to Ί ³ ³Ί compensate for the fact that it was missed. This Ί ³ ³Ί is not the case with ‘In The Line of Fire‘. Ί ³ ³Ί Every flying solo from Herman Li and Sam Totman, Ί ³ ³Ί every sky-high jump from keyboardist Vadim Ί ³ ³Ί Pruzhanov, and the dramatic stage gestures of Ί ³ ³Ί vocalist Marc Hudson. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί The show is a good set list between new and old Ί ³ ³Ί with tracks like ‘Black Winter Night‘ and Ί ³ ³Ί ‘Seasons‘ really taking heed, along with the Ί ³ ³Ί tracks that diversify the standard Dragonforce Ί ³ ³Ί sound and pace such as ‘Symphony of the Night‘ Ί ³ ³Ί and ‘Three Hammers‘. The engaging stage antics Ί ³ ³Ί such as bassist Fred Leclerq’s actual ability to Ί ³ ³Ί string together some decent Japanese sentences Ί ³ ³Ί to the audience proves that the band hold Japan Ί ³ ³Ί dear, and vice-versa. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί ‘In The Line of Fire‘, looks good and sounds Ί ³ ³Ί great, and edited together almost like a musical Ί ³ ³Ί film with the interludes that dive into each of Ί ³ ³Ί the band member’s lives, it’s one of those live Ί ³ ³Ί DVD’s where you can actually sit through and not Ί ³ ³Ί realise and hour and a half. The band have Ί ³ ³Ί certainly matured and evolved over their 16 Ί ³ ³Ί years of existence, and finally we have a solid Ί ³ ³Ί visual output of one of the power metal greats.
