[img(width=316 height=60)]links/images/splogo.jpg[/img] The Temptations waren eine amerikanische Gesangsgruppe bei Motown Records mit riesigen Erfolgen in den 60ern und 70ern. Ihre Choreography, ihr Harmoniegesang und das schickes Auftreten war absolut angesagt. Die Gruppe war für den R&B und Soul so wichtig wie die Beatles für den Pop - also herausragend. Ihr "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" ist ein Klassiker und kann es locker mit Hymnen wie "Yesterday" aufnehmen. Temptations Songs wurden von zahllosen Musikern gecovert, von R&B Sängern wie Luther Vandross ("Since I Lost My Baby"), über Bette Midler ("Just My Imagination"), zu gestandenen Rockern wie Rare Earth ("Get Ready"), Anthrax, Love and Rockets, Duran Duran ("Ball of Confusion (That's What the World Is Today)") und den Rolling Stones ("My Girl", "Ain't Too Proud to Beg", "Just My Imagination") und Mick Jaggers Kollaboration mit Reggaekünstlern wie Peter Tosh ("Don't Look Back"). Rod Stewart veröffentlichte schon 1971 "I'm Losing You" Die Liste läßt sich endlos fortsetzen. Schon 1965 hatten sie ihren ersten Nr 1 Hit, das unsterbliche "My Girl". One of Motown main groups went to see if the grass was greener at Atlantic ... As they were produced by the 2/3 of the famous Holland/Dozier/Holland team, it was still a family affair. A decent album but the flame was already flickering and they were in the way to become a group of anonymous passing-by singers using a prestigious name to sell less and less relevant albums. At least this one is nice to listen to.
