Mother’s Finest ist eine US-amerikanische Funk-Rock-Soul-Crossover-Band, die 1970 von dem Sänger-Ehepaar Joyce „Baby Jean“ Kennedy und Glen „Doc“ Murdock gegründet wurde. Ihr erstes Album kam 1973 auf RCA heraus und ist heute ein rares Sammlerstück.
1976 erschien ihr 2. Album Mother’s Finest bei Epic/CBS. Es enthielt mit dem ironisch gemeinten Song Nigizz Can’t Sing Rock ‘n’ Roll einen umstrittenen Song, der für einigen Aufruhr sorgte. Das dritte Album Another Mother Further spielte mit der Assoziation mit dem Wort Motherfucker.


Critics were not overtly favourable to the album on its release, & it does sound rather dated with its swingbeat, & drum machine licks, but to me that is its charm. Stand out cuts as far as I'm concerned are 'I'm 'n' danger', 'Still love each other', & 'Too serious'. Perhaps not their best, & definitely a child of the 80's. It is not rock. It's more soul. And Joyce is singing all tracks
(no Glenn as the lead voice). It's produced by Attala Zane Gile which might explain the "new" sound.
