Mitglieder waren der ehemalige Kraftwerk-Schlagzeuger Klaus Dinger (Gesang, Gitarre, Keyboards), Thomas Dinger (Gesang, Perkussion) sowie Hans Lampe (Perkussion, Elektronik). Typisch für die Musik von La Düsseldorf sind lange, über weite Strecken instrumentale Stücke, die mit Klangkollagen und spärlichem Gesang, der oft nur deutsche, englische oder zuweilen auch französische Sprachfetzen enthält, ergänzt werden. Die Musik von Neu! und La Düsseldorf übte großen Einfluss auf die Musik von Brian Eno und David Bowie aus. Bowie nannte La Düsseldorf „the soundtrack of the eighties“ Recorded in '85-'86, Blue is either the fifth La Dusseldorf album or the second Klaus Dinger / Neondian album, depending on how you classify it, but definitely not a la! NEU? album. Many Dinger fans rate this album quite high, and while I certainly enjoy it, I don't consider it a masterpiece by any means. (The real la! NEU? albums are miles better than this.) The main problem I have with Blue is the unnecessary and overlong remake of "America" (which was already perfect on Neondian) and the poor track sequencing. Still, the album has lots of period charm, the sentiment expressed in "Arms Control Blues" is more than inspiring, and "Touch You Tonight," while short, ranks as one of the best songs that Dinger has ever done.
