Claudja Barry (born in 1952) is a Jamaican-born Canadian singer. She signed with Hot Foot label and released a single called "Reggae Bump". While not a commercial success, it got Barry noticed by German producer Frank Farian who casting members for his new project Boney M.. Barry starred alongside Maizie Williams, Sheyla Bonnick and another named Mike, the latter two eventually being replaced by Marcia Barrett and Bobby Farrell. Seeing no future lip-sync'ing for the group, Barry left Boney M. early 1976 and was replaced by Liz Mitchell. Teaming up with her husband-to-be J�rgen Korduletsch, Barry released her first single on the Lollipop label, "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do" in the spring. She was offered to join Silver Convention, taking Linda G. Thompson's place, but declined

Sweet Dynamite is the debut album by Canadian singer Claudja Barry. Barry's mid-tempo album track "Love for the Sake of Love" garnered recognition 23 years after its release when it was sampled in 1999 on Montell Jordan's "Get It On Tonite" which went No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, selling 800,000 copies in the US alone. It was also a Top 20-hit in several European countries. The track has been sampled by other artists, incl. the late rapper Prodigy and Mobb Deep. a lot of dance music has been full of warmth and feeling, and Claudja Barry is a prime example. The singer's promising debut album, Sweet Dynamite, was a major hit in clubs, but all of the material holds up nicely away from the dance floor. None of the songs come across as mechanical or insincere, and Barry is as soulful on the haunting, European-flavored "Love for the Sake of Love" as she is on the exuberant "Why Must a Girl Like Me" and the gritty title song, which has as much to do with soul and funk as it does with Euro-disco. Though Barry's vocals are the album's main focus, she lays out on "Live a Little Bit," an infectious instrumental that successfully fuses Euro-disco with African pop and reggae. Produced by J�rgen S. Korduletsch, this promising debut went down in history as a true dance classic and is among Barry's most essential albums.
