Die Gruppe wurde 1976 an der Kentucky State University von Reginald Calloway (Trompete), seinem Bruder Vincent (Posaune) und der Sängerin Belinda Lipscomb gegründet. Die Single Operator aus dem fünften Album Planetary Invasion erreichte schließlich Platz 1 der R&B Charts und war der größte Single-Erfolg der Gruppe, die LP selbst schaffte es auf Platz 7. Die Formation löste sich 1990 vorübergehend auf. 2000 folgte die Reunion, zwei Jahre später eine neue 15th Av.. Bis heute tritt die Band live auf. Mellowed with age perhaps, unlike their previous albums, there's nothing really here specifically for the dance floor, instead the band deliver a really nice, soulful listening set, and if you ever liked some of the groups earlier slow jam material like 'Curious', 'Move Me', 'Feels So Good', 'Let's Celebrate' etc you'll be in seventh heaven!. Midnight Star always were a fantastically gifted band vocally. It's subtle grooves will really get under your skin!
