Magazine zeichnete sich als eine der ersten Bands durch hohe Experimentierfreudigkeit aus, die später typisch für den Post Punk werden sollte. Sie kombinierten die Energie und Wut des Punks mit poetischeren Texten und den für damalige Punk-Verhältnisse ungewohnten Einsatz von Keyboards. Musikalisch bewegte sich Magazine zwischen schroffen Akkordwechseln und düsteren, aber atmosphärischen Klanglandschaften. This album is essentially a stand-alone version of the third disc of Magazine's out-of-print boxed set. When I put the CD into my computer to rip it to iTunes, it recognized the disc as "Maybe it's Right to Be Nervous Now (Disc 3)." This edition contains no bonus tracks, no re-remastered sound (it sounds fine as it is), and no special essays in the liner notes. It's a pretty bare-bones package, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that a comprehensive document of Devoto & Co.'s excellent John Peel performances are available again, and any fan that missed out the first time gets a second chance.
