Hardrock

Montrose was a California-based hard rock band. The band originally featured Ronnie Montrose on guitar and future solo artist and Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar. Rounding out the original foursome were bassist Bill Church and drummer Denny Carmassi.
Prior to forming the band Montrose, guitarist Ronnie Montrose had been a successful session musician, playing (along with future Montrose bassist Bill Church) on Van Morrison's Tupelo Honey album produced by Ted Templeman, and on albums by Beaver & Krause and Herbie Hancock. He was also a member of the Edgar Winter Group, playing on the hit single Frankenstein from the best-selling album They Only Come Out at Night (1972).
Ronnie Montrose performed off and on from 2001 until his death. Following a long battle with clinical depression, Ronnie Montrose took his life on March 3, 2012.

The sound is clean, and Bill Church's bass hits you square in the chest with it's clarity. The live tracks from KSAN are excellent. Often times, other reissued live recordings are dull and sound as if they were recorded in a closet. Not so on this one! Sound quality is clear, sharp, and the listener is treated to hearing Ronnie Montrose go into absolute outer orbit on the fret board. All told, these tracks are timeless, and sound as fresh and raw as they did all those years ago. With practice and enough effects, a lot of players can get fairly close to sounding like the big boys. Ie. Eddie Van Halen, but I can't think of anyone that can touch Ronnie's tone, or his "feel" on his instrument. 
Tom Scholtz of Boston once told Sammy Hagar...'That first Montrose album...it's the bible.' True enough.
