Hardrock

Montrose was a California-based hard rock band. The band originally featured Ronnie Montrose on guitar and future solo artist and Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar. Rounding out the original foursome were bassist Bill Church and drummer Denny Carmassi.
Prior to forming the band Montrose, guitarist Ronnie Montrose had been a successful session musician, playing (along with future Montrose bassist Bill Church) on Van Morrison's Tupelo Honey album produced by Ted Templeman, and on albums by Beaver & Krause and Herbie Hancock. He was also a member of the Edgar Winter Group, playing on the hit single Frankenstein from the best-selling album They Only Come Out at Night (1972).
Ronnie Montrose performed off and on from 2001 until his death. Following a long battle with clinical depression, Ronnie Montrose took his life on March 3, 2012.

Mean is the fifth and final album by American hard rock band Montrose. It has much more of a glam metal sound than previous Montrose albums. 'Mean' is definitely the most under-the-radar Montrose release, it is also the most straightforward hard rock album in the Ronnie Montrose discography (which includes the infinitely interesting Ronnie Montrose 'mostly-instrumental' albums and the synth-guitar dueling Gamma) since the debut. For those who wish Ronnie would play it more basic - like the first Montrose album - this is for you. While 'Mean' does lose some effectiveness due to cliched lyrics (but then so does the first Montrose album), there is no denying the excellent guitar work; particularly in the soloing department.
