The Alarm ist eine walisische Alternative-Rock-Band, die im Vereinigten K�nigreich zu den erfolgreichsten Bands der 1980er Jahre z�hlte. 1983 erschien das erste offizielle Album Declaration, nachdem zun�chst eine Mini-LP namens The Alarm herausgebracht wurde. Im gleichen Jahr spielte die Band als Vorgruppe bei der War-Tour von U2 und wurde so in den Vereinigten Staaten und Europa bekannt. Durch diese gemeinsame Tournee mit U2 wurden die beiden Bands zun�chst in einen Topf geworfen, obwohl sie beide verschiedene Stilrichtungen bevorzugten. Nach dem Album Raw (1991), das vernichtende Kritiken erhielt, gab Mike Peters die Aufl�sung der Band bekannt. Mittlerweile spielt er unter dem Bandnamen Platter ein.

Eye of the Hurricane is the third studio album from The Alarm. After making some significant chart inroads with their second full length album, "Strength", the Alarm went for an even more commercial sound with this followup. On "Strength", the producer Mike Howlett had augmented the group's basic drums-bass-guitars setup up with more prominent keyboards than their first outing, "Declaration". Here, besides even more keyboards, new producer John Porter slickens up the production in a fairly obvious attempt to get more radio airplay. The sound is more compressed, with less space between the instruments and lead vocals out front. In terms of the songwriting, though, it's typical Alarm. Whether writing with bassist Eddie MacDonald or the whole band, rhythm guitarist/principal lead vocalist Mike Peters creates big, emotional songs based on natural imagery ("Rain..", title track) or obtuse spriituality ("Newtown Jericho", "Hallowed Ground"), although he also adds some almost desperate sounding love songs.
