Former Sly & the Family Stone bassist Larry Graham renamed Hot Chocolate (not the British group) Graham Central Station after he moved from producing the group to playing with it. The group included Graham, guitarist David Vega, keyboardists Robert Sam and Hershall Kennedy, percussionist Patrice Banks, and drummer Willie Sparks. They utilized the identical funk cum rock and soul formula of Sly, though in not quite as imaginative a fashion. T They recorded as Graham Central Station from 1974 to 1977, then as Larry Graham & Graham Central Station in 1978, and during their final year were called Larry Graham with Graham Central Station. He brought along a revamped "Graham Central Station": "Wilton 'Fabb' Rabb" (Guitar), "David Council" and "James 'Joy' McKinney" (Keyboards), "Brian 'Rio" Braziel" (Drums) and " Ashling 'Buscuit' Cole" on Vocal, Percussion, and the returning "Funk Box".... This is hands down the best album he had since the late '70's!!!!!!! He obviously went back to the drawing board, because the album starts with a "GCS Drumline" (just like on "Mirror")..... Then it goes into the 1st "Funky Crown Jewel", "Throw-N-Down The Funk"....It takes us back to the days when "G.C.S" was IT!!!!!!! "Larry" and the group revamped 3 "G.C.S" classics, "It Aint No Fun To Me", "Its Alright" and "Now Do You Wanna Dance"....Now, as I always say, they have nothing on the originals, but I am sure "Larry" just wanted to introduce them to a new generation... His friend and Brother in Faith, "Prince", was all over the album (The 2nd Crown Jewel title track, "Shoulda Woulda Coulda", and "Movin'")....These are first rate "Funky" joints, and the good thing is, this time "Prince's" sound doesn't dominate the songs...He seemed to be happy just helping out and hanging out.... Enjoy this MONSTER of an album!
