Gründer James Mtume spielte mit Miles Davis in den 70ern. Andere Mitglieder waren Reggie Lucas und Tawatha Agee. Mtume hatten einen eigenen, basslastigen und schweren RnB-Musikstil, der auch heute noch modern klingt. Every song is excellent but the best are in order: Body & Soul, BreathLess, POP Generation, Theme For the Theater of the Mind, Deep Freeze, I'd Rather Be with You and the others are good fillers.
