Es ist eine der wenigen Bands, die im British Blues Boom und in der Punk-Ära gleichermaßen Erfolg hatten. Die vor allem in den 1970er-Jahren aktive Gruppe wurde bekannt durch Songs wie Back in the Night, Roxette und Milk and Alcohol. Wie viele andere Pub-Rock-Bands, zum Beispiel die ebenfalls aus Southend stammenden Eddie & the Hot Rods, waren Dr. Feelgood hauptsächlich durch ihre Live-Auftritte bekannt. Den Durchbruch der Band brachte 1976 das Live-Album Stupidity, das auf Platz Eins in den englischen Charts landete. It is a classic combination- bass, drums, guitar & voice - & when you get it right, it is 100% perfection. A lot of bands don’t. Fools think it’s a simple thing - it’s not. Yes, pretty much anybody can plonk out three chords & call it rock & roll, but to get the energy, the nuance, the interplay of all the elements - that takes real commitment & instinctive feel & emotional intelligence. That’s what sets the Feelgoods apart here. Razor sharp playing, a total delight in the work they are doing - not to mention a neat avoidance of rock & roll’s earlier tendencies towards embarrassing misogyny - make this an essential & triumphant addition to the Feelgood story.
