Peverett, Earl und Stevens hatten bereits zusammen bei der Bluesrock-Band Savoy Brown gespielt, nun vereinten sie gemeinsam mit Price die Musikgenres Boogie, Blues und Hard Rock in einer Band. Im Juni 1972 erschien das Debüt-Album Foghat, produziert von Dave Edmunds. Als Single wurde der Willie-Dixon-Klassiker I Just Want to Make Love to You ausgekoppelt. Sowohl das Album als auch die Single kamen nur in den USA in die Charts Boogie Motel is the eighth studio album by rock band Foghat. The big problem with Boogie Motel is its production downplays guitars in favor of an overall radio-friendly slickness. It's the wrong strategy, because it makes a once-ferocious band sound positively toothless: "Somebody's Been Sleepin' in My Bed" loses the dynamic power inherent in its arrangement due to the blunted sound of the guitars and drums, and the title track's slick arrangement (complete with horn arrangement) and radio-friendly mix make it sound pleasant instead of ferocious.
