Soul

Curtis Mayfield (* 3. Juni 1942 in Chicago, Illinois; gest. 26. Dezember 1999 in Roswell, Georgia) war ein amerikanischer Soulmusiker. Ab 1970 arbeitete Mayfield als Solok�nstler sowie mit zahlreichen Soullegenden wie Gladys Knight & the Pips, Aretha Franklin und The Staple Singers. Mit Superfly ver�ffentlichte er 1972 einen der einflussreichsten Blaxploitation-Soundtracks. 1976 spielte er im Film Short Eyes mit, f�r den er auch den Soundtrack schrieb und dessen Produzent er war. In der ersten H�lfte der 1970er Jahre erzielte er seine gr��ten Charterfolge mit Liedern wie Move On Up, Gimme Your Love und Superfly.
Curtis Mayfield was one of the first black artists to openly sing about the inequities facing his race as well as sing with Afrocentricity. He wrote songs for his group, The Impressions, such as "Choice of Colors", "We're A Winner" and "Keep On Pushin'" that provided the soundtrack for the civil rights movement. On his first solo album, Curtis, he takes on a harder stance and his songs are most critical and scathing than the uplifting one he performed with The Impressions. The album's opener "(Don't Worry) If There's A Hell Below, We're All Gonna Go" breaks down stereotypes and lays blame for the nation's situation on everyone. The album's best track is the misty "We The People Who Are Darker Than Blue" that has a mystical vibe to it. Mr. Mayfield was never afraid of speaking his mind and his debut solo album has alot to say.

Got to Find a Way is the sixth studio album by Curtis Mayfield. Curtis Mayfield continued his run of excellent albums in the '70s with Got to Find a Way. This album had more love songs than some of his earlier material, although he didn't tone down his searing attacks on American injustice and hypocrisy. His vocals continued to be alternately poignant, urgent, and accusatory, while his lyrics, production, and arrangements were once again magnificent.
