Bedeutende Künstler, wie Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Prince, Chuck D, und John Mayer fühlten sich von Sly and the Family Stone inspiriert. These are actually tracks recorded between 1963 and 1965 by Sly Stone (nee Sylvester Stewart) during his dues-paying period as a producer for the West Coast indie label Autumn Records. This album collects a nice cross section of his (mostly unreleased) productions. It makes for an interesting snapshot of the early '60s pop moment, running the gamut as it does from derivative doo-wop, R&B, and teen pop ("Help Me With My Broken Heart" has elements of all three genres), to novelty songs ("Uncle Sam Needs You My Friend"). It's all entertaining enough in a period sort of way, but don't expect anything like Stone's late '60s innovations.
