Gegründet von Glady im zarten Alter von 14 schlossen sich ihr großer Bruder Merald "Bubba" Knight, ihre Schwester Brenda Knight, sowie ihr Cousin und ihre Cousine William und Elenor Guest der Gruppe an. Der größte Hit der Gruppe war "Midnight Train to Georgia". The LP features both their early Motown and their best known pre-Motown hits (you should hear what they did with "Letter Full of Tears.") Also, the Pips get to do a solo number ("Girl Talk") and this is the album in which they did "Just In Time", which Motown featured on the 'Motown Celebrates Frank Sinatra' CD Although it was taken from different performances (thus, the subtitle "Live Performances by Gladys Knight & the Pips" - I suspect the majority of it was from Westbury Music Fair, where they opened up for Diana Ross & The Supremes No singles were released, so it went unnoticed, failing to even chart.
