Toyah Willcox (* 18. Mai 1958 in Kings Heath, Birmingham, England) ist eine britische Sängerin und Schauspielerin.
Besonders hervorstechend war ihr extravagantes äußere. Schrillbuntes Make-Up und Kleider mit immer neuen, verrückten Haarschnitten.
Sie hatte aber auch eine sehr exotische Musik kreiiert, die über puren Punk weit hinausging. Mit ihrer außergewöhnlichen Stimme war sie in der Punk-Rock-Szene sehr populär
und 1982 wurde sie bei den British Rock and Pop Awards zur besten Sängerin gewählt.

The Changeling war Toyahs Nachfolgealbum des von Kritikern bejubelten Album Anthem. Es ist düsterer, fast Gothic. "The Packt" und "Brave New World" zeigen ein düsteres Bild der Zukunft.
As expressed in the album's title,for _The changeling_ Toyah cast off the Punk influences such as the screechy guitars and the exciting tribal rhythms to make way for a bold,bright music production. Thankfully, Toyah's cineamatic lyrics and wonderfully dramatic voice remained intact. While the minor hit single "Brave new world" presented a very grown-up Toyah,singing from the heart over a downtempo rock arrangement,elsewhere, aside from the abovementioned production shift, Toyah is still fascinated with the Occult ("The packt","The Druids")with child-like Sci-Fi themes ("Life in the trees","Street creature")and as the padded-cell nightmare of "Creepy room" demonstrates, a fancy, more mainstream sound was not enough to surpress the dark,mentally twisted side of Toyah's imagination,what a fantastic way to begin an album! "Creepy room" is a track without restraints, it's brooding ("This.. is.. the mad.. _hatters'_.. tea par-tay")chaotic ("I get these wild,WILD moods I get OBSESSED!")creepily amusing ("I've been a naughty girl") and back to geninely disturbing when toyah's temporarily high pitched voice suddenly lowers into a menacing,genuinely frightening tone ("I need some cold discomforrrt". It's easily as weird as the weirdest 80's tracks I've heard and that's saying something.
While I would've liked more tracks of a similiar psychotic vain, the rest of the album never dissappoints with solid rock based rhythms a good few years ahead of their time, great big choruses and a consistantly engaging voice singing lyrics that take the listener on one visually stimulating journey after another.
