Gotik

Bauhaus war eine britische Dark-Wave-/Rock-Band, die zusammen mit Musikern wie Joy Division, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure den Grundstein für Gothic Rock legte. Die Band kombinierte einen progressiven, experimentellen Musikstil mit schwermütigen und mystischen Texten und einem Auftreten in dunkler Kleidung mit düsterem Make-up.
Gegründet wurde die Band 1978 im englischen Northampton von den vier Kunststudenten Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash, David J und Kevin Haskins. Namensgeber war die 1919 von Walter Gropius in Weimar gegründete Kunst- und Designschule Bauhaus 
Bauhaus gilt als eine der einflussreichsten Musikgruppen des Gothic Rock. In The Flat Field wird von vielen Kritikern als das erste Album dieses Genres angesehen. Besonders der Sänger Peter Murphy wurde zum Idol der europäischen Gothic (Kultur) der 1980er Jahre und diente James O'Barr als Vorbild für den Protagonisten seines Comics The Crow.

A concert performed in 1998, in New York, released in 1999.  Gotham was recorded at, indeed, a New York City concert, the reunited band was ripping through their sets with an energy and sense of drama which most late-'90s acts would have given their eyeteeth for. Despite a set list generally devoid of surprises, the old live fire evident on Press the Eject and Give Me the Tape was easily reconjured here, with vicious takes on "In the Flat Field," "Kick in the Eye," and "Ziggy Stardust" some of the many highlights. Murphy is in fine voice. As the signal for Bauhaus' unexpected rebirth, Gotham is both a fine souvenir for fans and a great reminder of just how wonderful the band was and is.
