Klaus Nomi (* 24. Januar 1944 in Immenstadt; gest. 6. August 1983 in New York; bürgerlich Klaus Sperber) war ein im Bereich der Popmusik tätiger deutscher Kontertenor. Der Stimm-Exzentriker.
Nomis musikalischer Stil ist eine Mischung aus New Wave im Stil der Sparks und Oper. Sein Repertoire umfasste unterschiedliche Musikgattungen und -stile. Neben Eigenkompositionen (z. B. Keys of Life) und Stücken, die aus dem künstlerischen Dunstkreis des Dada stammen (u. a. Total Eclipse und Simple Man von Kristian Hoffman), die stark vom New Wave beeinflusst waren, interpretierte Nomi vor allem bekannte Pop-Songs aus den 1960er Jahren (Chubby Checkers The Twist, Marlene Dietrichs Falling In Love Again / Ich bin von Kopf bis Fuß auf Liebe eingestellt) und Opernarien (beispielsweise Henry Purcells Death und Cold Song, Saint-Sans Samson and Delilah). Seine einzige veröffentlichte rein deutschsprachige Single ist Der Nußbaum von Robert Schumann.
Seine Bühnenshow war retro-futuristisch an Science-Fiction-Visionen der 1920er-Jahre (v. a. Metropolis) ausgerichtet; weiß geschminktes Gesicht (Kabuki-Maske) mit schwarzen Lippen, ergänzt durch kubistische Kleidungsstücke und Frisuren waren sein Markenzeichen. Der Countertenor-Gesang war bis dato zwar bekannt, nicht jedoch im Pop-Zusammenhang. Seine stilistische Ausrichtung erinnert dabei in vielerlei Hinsicht an Peter Gabriel und David Bowie, die ähnlich wegweisend in dieser Musikepoche gewesen sind. Besonders typisch für Klaus Nomi waren seine roboterhaften Bewegungen auf der Bühne sowie ein übertrieben harter deutscher Akzent beim Vortrag der englischsprachigen Titel

Klaus Nomi was literally in a league of his own creatively in the music world of the 80s. It's not likely we'll ever see his unique style and presentation either on the stage or in the recording studio. Sadly, he passed years ago, thus, we have this wonderful collection of his "greatest" hits to enjoy for many years into the future. His voice is haunting, elegiac, and romantic depending on how you listen to the songs and what mood you're in at the time. There's even humor in some pieces, like Total Eclipse, The Twist and You Don't Own Me (made famous by Leslie Gore in the 60s.) Sometimes a song like his aria from Samson and Delilah will make you profoundly sad, and other times you will marvel at the power and artistry he was capable of in so many styles of music, from rock n' roll to opera.
Every track is a keeper but especially these gems: Total Eclipse (you can see a live performance clip in the movie URGH!), Cold Song, A Simple Man, Wasting My Time, You Don't Own Me, and of course, the magnificent aria from Samson and Delilah (which I believe is from the Massenet version, likely available in its entirety, with other soloists, on several CD recordings.)

Kompilation, nach seinem Tod veröffentlicht, mit dazu kamen unveröffentlichte Überbleibsel seines Schaffens. "Fanfare" ist instrumental, "Total Eclipse (live version)", "Can't Help Falling in Love" und "Der Nussbaum" unveröffentlicht.
